Markt 1 Facts
MARKT 1 IN DETAIL
Established and well-known property
The large corner building from the 80s is centrally located in Essen’s pedestrian zone at the popular hub between Markt and Kennedyplatz. The neo-Gothic town hall stood here until 1964, when Markt 1 became the economic and political centre of Essen. In 1963 the town hall was sold to the Wertheim department store group. The department store that had been built there was demolished in the mid-1980s and replaced by the current commercial building. Today’s Markt 1 immediately catches the eye due to its continuous shop window fronts, flexible floor plan design and exposed location.
Versatile use
With 9,900 m² of floor space, distributed over five upper floors and two basement floors, the property offers generous space for retailers. The tenants include a clothing company, two large telecommunications companies and three restaurants. There are also offices on the upper floors.
